As all of you know, acceptance to a Dental School in the United States (and
Canada) requires a competitive score on the Dental Admission Test. As part
of our commitment and as stated in our clubs mission statement, we are here
as a academic group to provide help and suggestive tips for studying for
the DAT. Please come join us as the Vice-President of the Club, Pauline Le
will discuss her strategies to tackle the DAT. Light refreshments will be
served, but feel free to bring any left over Valentine's Day candy or
treats!
~T-shirts are available for a $5 donation to the Hubbard House!
~We will be collecting soda-can tops, please bring them with you!

For our first meeting of the semester we will introduce the new officers, present future plans for the year and we have the privilege of Dr. Konstantine Sayaf of the All Smiles Dental Center joining us to talk about his career path and answer any questions anybody has. The first meeting will be a potluck, a list of food items being brought will be provided through the facebook page; so please check the facebook page to RSVP and mention the food items that are being brought by fellow students!

International Service Learning

Where: Panama
What: International Service Learning (ISL) is a volunteering organization that enlists medical and educational volunteer teams for the provision of services to under-served populations in Central and  South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Africa.  According to the schedule on their site (http://www.islonline.org/), a 9-day program is planned that will be volunteering with pedriatic dentistry, pre-dental, and dental needs in Panama.
    The cost per person is $1670 (not including flight to/from).  According to the website, an application is submitted along with $285 (an $85 non-refundable application fee and $200 non-refundable fee towards the trip). Finanical aid is avaliable and if half the trip is paid for before Aug. 31st, a 10% discount is offered to volunteers.
    If enough people are interested, Robert and I will go speak to Club Alliance about fundraising opportunities at the school to help with the cost of the trip.
   Please check out the link if you're are truly interested in this once in a lifetime opportunity; I believe the money will be nothing compared to the experience you gain!

LECOM Open House!


When: August 13, 2012 11am-2pm
Where: LECOM School of Dental Medicine in Brandton, FL
What: LECOM School of Dental Medicine will be offering a open house! The program will include an overview of Problem Based Learning (PBL) as well as information about the clinical model presented by the Dean, Dr. Robert Hirsch. Tours will be provided and admissions counselors will be available to answer your questions.

Hopefully we can get a big group and represent our club, as we have in the past at UF and NOVA!!!

Wednesday Jan 25th, 2012: Informational Session @ Starbucks with a UF Dental Student!

A UF Dental Student who is a current member of the NAVY, Matthew Banks, has been kind enough to have a laid back informational session with us this upcoming Wednesday. We will have a chance to hear about his journey through dental school and chat about aspects regarding the dental field, including information about the NAVY. Please join us with questions and opens ears, while enjoying coffee on the side!

For our first official meeting, we have the honor of bringing Dr. Hal Lippman, the Assistant DEAN OF ADMISSIONS from NOVA Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine as a speaker! He will be discussing everything dental school related, their interview process, what they look for in your application, and much more. You will be able to talk to him one-on-one and get all of your questions answered. This is truly a great opportunity, so make sure to RSVP in order to have enough FREE food at this function! Let's make this a great turnout like last year, spread the word, all are welcome!
